Just another WordPress.com weblogDo childhood toys influence our chosen careers?
This is a good one to discuss. Apparently in the Daily Telegraph, there was an article stating that the toys we play with during our childhood often influence the careers we eventually choose.
The most likely group of professionals likely to be influenced by their choice of toy are Architects! Apparently 99% of them played with constructions toys and 54% had decided this career by the age of 16.
Which begs the question what toy would reflect the chosen career of Career Guidance Practitioner?
A Banker likes board games like Monopoly, IT professionals obviously like playing video games (does this mean that all of our Wiiplaying children of today are all destined for the same career and flooding the market with IT specialists?) are these not stereotypical comments to make of which we are all so careful to steer away from?
If the statement is true then we will need to worry about how effective current guidance provisions are made when all we really have to do is take children to the nearest toy shop and let them pick the toy they most want to play with and then match the toy to the career – a new matching theory!!
